Happiness is not HD…………….Diwali !

We are here again, festive season, warm lights and cool nights. Durga festival at its end and all are looking up to Diwali. For most of us this is about decorating our homes, buying new things, visiting temples and relatives and home-made delicacies. Crowd, all over.

Last week I have been to one such venues of Durga festival. It was amazing and crowded. All possible entries to temple were blocked for any vehicles, only pedestrians allowed. Everyone was rushing to the venue and then to the long shopping spree along the road. There were more than thousands of vendors on street.

All the vendors were selling various things, from food to decorative and toys to apparel. Some of them were teenagers and some senior citizens. Every year I see a lady about 60 years of age, sitting at same place with one small table and a chair. She sits at corner and sells snacks.

Some children were selling toys, some were selling fans and some were selling flutes. One man was writing names on rice grain and showing his skills. Others were selling beads and ribbons.

Those who were not selling anything, mostly of them buying few things. And many were just enjoying the crowd ! Yes, enjoying the rush !

Hence, I realized that there is an order in the chaos. An invisible order that is always presents during festival rush ! Season provides many business opportunities to all age groups. And also provides buying opportunities to all income groups.

That invisible order which keeps everything at its place is the real prosperity. The real goddess of energy and growth reside in that crowd. Diwali is shopping phenomenon culturally. Even if you are not buying anything, you must be buying diyas and lights. But for millions it’s auspicious reason to buy gold, diamonds and precious gifts.

But does that sum up spirit of Laxmi ? shopping malls and jewelry brands ? Here crowd teaches us true spirit of Diwali. Everyone is buying something from 1rs. to 1crore, streets are full. Real spirit lies with that small vendor who with hope of profit sits around corner, selling plastic flowers. And when some spirited buyer like those plastic flowers, Diwali gets started.

Prosperity lies with small but true things which gives you happiness to cherish and memories to pamper. Calculated EMI’s and extravaganza things takes away sheer bliss !! So next time when you going to buy that designer stuff, take a walk in crowd where happiness is spilling from pockets ! Remember happiness is not HD, it’s just happiness !!
